Sometimes, for one reason or
another, we bunnies decide to just stop eating.
No...it's not because we want to look good for the reunion.
If a bunny stops eating, that is NEVER a good thing.
Sometimes, a bunny gets
scared and everything inside just stops working.
Nothing moves out so nothing moves in.
Sometimes, a bunny ingests
too much fur and it doesn't pass properly.
Everything gets stuck and shuts down.
Sometimes, a bunny gets too
many treats or not enough hay and gets gas.
Everything stops working.
If your bunny is refusing
treats, not eating his usual food,
or not producing the usual number/size/shape poops, you need to take action
quickly.
There is a fantastic article
which details everything you need to know about Stasis.
Written by Dana Krempels, it is an authority no bunny home should be without.

If you have an emergency and
don't have time to read the article,
here are a few things you can do while you wait to hear from the vet:
-
1. MASSAGE your
bunny's tummy...take note of how it feels (hard, tight, soft, etc.).
It's a good idea to take note of how it feels on a normal day so you
can compare.
Some bunnies, especially larger breeds, tend to have tighter tummies
than do smaller ones.
-
2. HAY: Put hay
in your bunny's face to try and get him to eat some.
Hay is your best defense against Stasis. Make sure it is fresh, clean
Timothy Hay.
-
3. MOTION: Get your
bunny moving. Get him to chase a cardboard tube or even run a little.
If your bunny refuses to move, carry him and do the moving yourself.
-
4. LISTEN to your
bunnies tummy. Can you hear gas rumblings? Try a dose of Simethicone.
-
5. SELF-CARE: Call
someone you know has dealt with this before...ask for help.
You need to stay CALM so your bunny can get better.
It will only stress your bunny out more if you give yourself stasis
from stress and worry.
Believe things will be ok then do what it takes to get your bunny
the best care possible.
