This was the condition of our space before we began construction. We had a 12' by 6' lot to work with, so we subdivided it into two 6' by 6' lots so as to provide maximum acreage.

The units are well-lit by a large picture window to the East. Ventilation is provided by overhead fans and central air.

Construction began with a plywood base. A full sheet of plywood (4'x8') was cut into 2 sections (4' x 6' and 4' x 2').

An additional 2' x 2' piece was added to complete the square.

Two-by-fours were used as stabilizers and to strengthen the seams. Two 6' 2x4s were glued to the outside edges with two 5'4" 2x4s along the other two sides and down the center seam. Two foot 2x4s were used to complete the base and fill in the remaining seam.

The foundation was completed with another layer of plywood. 1/2 to 3/4 thickness is required at this stage.

Again, the full sheet was cut into two sections and completed with a separate 2' by 2' section.

The plywood was first glued then screwed into the 2x4s using coarse drywall screws.

Builder and Assistant Builder tested the sturdiness of the base by walking on it repeatedly. No structural flaws were detected.
